TREM is La Table régionale de l’éducation de la Mauricie and it has been in existence since 2001. It was born out of a commitment by all players in the region’s educational sector to work together, while allowing economic and regional development agencies to decide on educational development priorities. TREM is the reference point for all educational matters, and therefore its make-up is both cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral. Its first priority is academic success.

In 2002, TREM made a regional priority of the need to combat educational discontinuation and dropout. A major campaign took shape in the Mauricie region:
2002-2003
Investigation of dropout among Mauricie youth in the form of a documentary exploration and analysis of the latest socio-demographic and socio-economic indicators in the regions, as well as key educational indicators.
Development of a strategic action plan against dropping-out from which concrete solutions could be adapted to the reality of the situation, taking into account local issues and priorities.
2003-2004
Establishment of an observatory to improve knowledge of the circumstances of social and professional integration of young people in the Mauricie.
2004-2008
Development and launch of the COMPERES action plan (subsequently COMPETES in English) aimed at supporting educational success and promoting the social and job-market integration of Mauricie youth. It proposed three forms of action:
